CHICKPEA CURRY (VEGAN)



This is one such delicious curried chick peas that goes well with any rice or bread. This is also perfect  for those who are dieting to loose few pounds.

Ingredients:
  • Chickpeas- 2 cans or 2 cups boiled ( if you are using dried chickpeas then soak it for at least 4 to 6 hours and then boil)
  • Onion-1 big diced
  • Tomato- 2 medium sized
  • Oil- 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds, few cumin seeds (for tempering)
  • Curry leaves( optional)
  • Coriander powder- 1 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilli powder- 1 teaspoon
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Ginger garlic paste- 1 teaspoon
  • Tamarind - about lime size

METHOD
  • Take a pan, add about a tablespoon of oil, once oil is hot add the mustard, cumin, fenugreek seeds, after mustard crackles, add the diced onions and sauté well
  • Once the onion softens, add ginger garlic paste sauce well until the raw smell is gone might take a minute and then add the coriander and chilli powder mix well with the onions, 
  • Now add the tomatoes, close the lid and wait until it turns mushy , add salt as per taste
  • Soak the lime size tamarind in hot water,squeeze out the juice, leaving behind the pulp or you can also use about a tablespoon of tamarind paste available at indian grocery market.
  • Add to the onion, tomato mixture, bring it to boil, now add the boiled chickpeas to the curry, add water as per your required consistency, boiled well for about 10 mins in medium flame until you get the desired consistency of a curry
  • Delicious curried chick peas are ready to serve, this can be served with brown rice or basmati rice.
