QUICK AND HEALTHY FRUIT CUSTARD
Fruit custard is an easy, nutritious desert and is the best way to incorporate fruits to kids diet. They are easy to make and can be prepared ahead of time during parties. I have used whole milk. You can also substitute with almond milk to make this a vegan desert, it will taste delicious. Here is a step by step instructions to follow.
Whole milk/Almond milk - 2 cups
custard powder - 2 teaspoon
mixed fruits - 2 cups
nuts for garnish
sugar (optional) - 2 tablespoon
In a saucepan, add about 2 cups of whole milk, meanwhile in a separate bowl, take about 3 tablespoon of milk from the saucepan, add 2 teaspoon of custard powder and make a smooth paste without lumps. Keep them aside. Now switch on the stove and heat the milk in the saucepan. keeping the flame on medium and bring it to boil, once done, remove the saucepan from heat and add in the custard paste and stir well for a minute, again place the saucepan on heat and stir them keeping the flame on low for 2 mins. You will notice that the milk will thicken up. If you prefer a thin custard, add just a teaspoon of custard powder while making the custard paste. Remove the milk from heat and let it cool down. Take any fruits of your choice cut in small cubes. Here i used mixed fruits.sugar (optional) - 2 tablespoon
While serving in a cup or bowl, first add the fruits and then pour the custard on top, garnish it with chocolate chips or chopped nuts. They make an excellent desert for summer parties. I usually refrigerate the custard for an hour before serving. I like it chilled, however they are delcious treats.
NOTE
- If you are using almond milk, just warm up the almond milk and add the custard paste , made by mixing 2 teaspoon of custard powder to 2 tablespoon of almond milk. Rest is the same.
- Here i did not add sugar to make it healthy. traditionally sugar is added to the milk while heating inorder to make custard.
