POTATO FRITTERS (BHAJI/PAKORAS) Gluten free

Yum

I make these fritters as a snack for my family and kids just enjoy them. This makes an excellent variation on potato based dishes. These are simple and delicious to prepare, perfect starters for parties.

Potato - 1 sliced thin
gram flour/besan/chick pea flour - 1 cup
rice flour - 2 tablespoon
red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
asafoetida - a pinch
baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
salt - 1 teaspoon
oil for deep frying

PREP TIME : 10 MINS                 COOK TIME : 15 MINS                     YEILDS : 10

Heat a pan with required oil for deep frying. Meanwhile in a bowl add the above listed ingredients except potato slices. Pour water about half a cup and using a whisk, bring it to a thick batter consistency as shown in the picture. Once the oil is ready for frying, gently immerse the potato slices one by one in the batter, make sure it is coated completely . Drop them into the hot oil, cook until they are brown, fliping both sides. When you drop the potato slices into the oil , they puff up and will float in the oil usually cooks within 2 or 3 mins. Keep the flame on medium high. Remove the excess oil by placing them on a paper towel. Serve hot with your favorite dip or chutney.

TIPS
  • For kids, skip adding the red chili powder.
  • Do not fry on low flame as the fritters wont puff well and will begin to absorb oils.
