Soap Crafting

Lately i have been obsessed with soap crafting. Its more creative and simple , helps to create soap and craft them in your own unique style. So lets begin.

Soap making is a science that happens when you combine a fatty acid (oil) with an alkaline substance (lye) which is know as saponification

Here is a simple way to make this happen.

Ingredients Needed: 

• 3.0 ounces sodium hydroxide(lye)
• 7.26 ounces distilled water
• 4.0 ounces palm oil
• 4.0 ounces coconut oil
• 14.0 ounces olive oil

Equipment Needed:

• Any waxed cardboard or beverage container as a mold.
• Heat resistant bowls or utensils
• sharp knife
• whisks
• for safety use rubber gloves and goggles
• measuring cups and spoons

Make Soap Mixture:

• Put on your safety gloves and goggles ,now slowly pour the lye into water, doing it the other way can create volcanic eruption.
• set the lye aside to cool, it will be cloudy to clear thats when its ready to use
• just melt the palm, coconut oil and olive oil in a separate container, mix them together when they are at room temperature
• Now slowly pour the lye-water mixture into the oils, using a blender blend smoothly to release any air bubbles
• you could find the consistency to that of a pudding
• try to pour them into any waxed container molds, i used an empty milk container, you can also use wax paper to cover the container.
• cover the top with a cardboard and keep some strong support on both side of the mold to set them on correct shape of the mold.
• Usually it might take from 24 hours to few days to unmold the soap as it needs to completely cooled down and dry.
• Here is now a handcrafted soap ready to use
• You can also use some coloring agent and fragrant oils to enhance your soap.
